Why I am taking part in the National Day of Prayer?

One text instantly came to mind as I considered an answer to this question... 


It takes me back to the day I was ordained and inducted.  Rev Derek Morrison from Gairloch was asked to address me as a new minister.  He explained that there many things he could say. He could speak about sermon preparation or visitation, strategies of ministry etc but he had decided to say nothing about any of that.  He just gave me a text:


John 15:5-6

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.


That’s a text that I have returned to time and time again. It’s easy to be busy.  But the primary calling of the Christian is to be with Christ (Mark 3:14), to remain in Him, and we do that as we take time to be in the Word of God and in prayer.  The prospect of day of united and focussed prayer where we can take time to be with our Lord and cry out to Him for nation is both necessary and exciting.  He is able…
